Our Corporate Event Venues Produce Positive Results and an Incredible Experience!

San Diego’s best location for off site corporate mixers, meetings and private events. The Maritime Museum offers four incredible ships, each with their own unique personality.

The National Historic Landmark, 1898 Berkeley ferryboat, located near the convention center on San Diego Bay, is available for corporate and private events, meetings, special events, and social gatherings. The Berkeley event space is not only unique with her gorgeous Victorian period appointments, but the space also has two large open-air decks that offer incredible views of both the downtown city skyline as well as breathtaking sunset views of the harbor. The event space boasts a large dance floor, beautiful hand carved wood seating, and Victorian (opalescent) stained glass windows that are back-lit at night and crown the venue with grace and elegance.

The historic tall ship Star of India is arguably, the most unique icon of San Diego, if not all of southern California. Built in 1863, she has circled the globe 21 times and has been designated with National and State Historic Landmark status.

The Star of India or any of the ships can be transformed, from an elegant cocktail reception to an exhilarating Pirate party. With its magnificent top decks, the Star of India is surrounded by a 360 degree breath-taking view of the San Diego skyline and harbor.

HMS Surprise, from the 20th Century fox Studios movie hit, Master & Commander, is available for corporate events and private events or gatherings. Host your unique corporate event, cocktail reception, a pre-dinner gathering, or dance on her decks into the night. She has a treasure of opportunities.

The HMS Surprise is fantastic for themed events as guests never forget the experiences aboard this majestic venue.

California’s State tall ship, Californian, has the dexterity to sail or stay dockside for intimate events and charters. She is instrumental in serving the community with our results oriented corporate team-building and sailing programs.

Meet Our Team: Jon Hall

This kicks off our new series of posts to help you get to know our Event Venues team here at the Maritime Museum of San Diego.

Events Group

First up is Jon Hall (center of photo)!  Originally from Fargo, North Dakota, Jon has been a San Diegan since 1950!  This year he and his wife, Lucy, will be celebrating their 50th anniversary.

Jon has been at the Maritime Museum of San Diego for seven years now and runs the Beverage Department in addition to assisting in the Event Venues Department.

When asked about one of his favorite memories here at the Museum Jon said, “My favorite was catering on the Star of India when it sailed.  It’s a 150 year old ship that sails with no motor and has sailed around the world 21 times.”  Now that is impressive!

Jon has also been the Assistant Food and Beverage Director at Town & Country, Vacation Village, Hacienda Hotel, and Holiday Inn Las Vegas.  He enjoys hanging out with his grandchildren and has a collection of 10,000 football programs and magazines.

We are so happy to have Jon as a part of our team.  If you host an event with us, you’ll probably see his smiling face behind the bar.  Make sure to say hello!

It’s a Surprise Party–“HMS” Surprise

The best kind of surprise party in my opinion is an “HMS” Surprise Party!

HMS Surprise Events Her twinkling lights enhance her beauty and mystique during sunset and evening events.  She is definitely one of our more entertaining ships, having starred in Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World and Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides.

Event held on the HMS Surprise Multiple catering and dining settings can be arranged on the main deck.  Cocktails and appetizers are most popular on the Surprise as her decks are generally used for corporate mixers, private parties with live music, or cocktail receptions.

Dinner table on the Surprise For intimate affairs, private dining can be arranged below midship on the tween deck.  Here, guests can experience artifacts and history depicting life from the 18th century along with rotating art exhibits.

Does anyone have fun photos of events on the Surprise?

Catch a Glimpse of a Berkeley Party

Now that you’ve had a sneak peak at a party on the Star of India, I’d like to give you the insider’s guide to the Berkeley Ferryboat.  She is one of our most popular party venues and never disappoints!

Bar on the Berkeley For starters, the Berkeley has a built-in bar that is perfect for refreshments for any party.

Berkeley Ferryboat Venue with Dance FloorIn front of the bar is a large dance floor that can be used for dancing, mingling, or even be transformed into a seating area for larger dinners or receptions.

Lounge on the Berkeley FerryboatThe East and West Decks can be converted into posh lounge areas for corporate events or mixers.  The downtown skyline compliments evening events on the East Deck, and the waterfront views are spectacular off the West Deck.

Catering and Tables at Event VenuesOur preferred caterers, San Diego Catering Company and Continental Catering, can create the perfect table setting for any theme and their concoctions are admired all over San Diego.

Berkeley Ferryboat Photo OpsFinally, any event aboard the Berkeley Ferryboat comes with fun and memorable photo ops!
