Our Corporate Event Venues Produce Positive Results and an Incredible Experience!
San Diego’s best location for off site corporate mixers, meetings and private events. The Maritime Museum offers four incredible ships, each with their own unique personality.
The National Historic Landmark, 1898 Berkeley ferryboat, located near the convention center on San Diego Bay, is available for corporate and private events, meetings, special events, and social gatherings. The Berkeley event space is not only unique with her gorgeous Victorian period appointments, but the space also has two large open-air decks that offer incredible views of both the downtown city skyline as well as breathtaking sunset views of the harbor. The event space boasts a large dance floor, beautiful hand carved wood seating, and Victorian (opalescent) stained glass windows that are back-lit at night and crown the venue with grace and elegance.
The historic tall ship Star of India is arguably, the most unique icon of San Diego, if not all of southern California. Built in 1863, she has circled the globe 21 times and has been designated with National and State Historic Landmark status.
The Star of India or any of the ships can be transformed, from an elegant cocktail reception to an exhilarating Pirate party. With its magnificent top decks, the Star of India is surrounded by a 360 degree breath-taking view of the San Diego skyline and harbor.
HMS Surprise, from the 20th Century fox Studios movie hit, Master & Commander, is available for corporate events and private events or gatherings. Host your unique corporate event, cocktail reception, a pre-dinner gathering, or dance on her decks into the night. She has a treasure of opportunities.
The HMS Surprise is fantastic for themed events as guests never forget the experiences aboard this majestic venue.
California’s State tall ship, Californian, has the dexterity to sail or stay dockside for intimate events and charters. She is instrumental in serving the community with our results oriented corporate team-building and sailing programs.
This year’s 150th Anniversary Gala for the Star of India was a huge success!
Delicious appetizers by Continental Catering and craft cocktails Craft & Commerce made the evening sparkle. Twinkle lights adorned the Star of India as she was moored in the middle of San Diego bay for this once in a lifetime event.
Generous guests were escorted over aboard the tall ship Californian and accompanying vessels. Live music enchanted the guests as the sun set over the bay. A live auction was held to raise funds for the San Salvador Project where many generous donations were made. Thank you to everyone who participated!

The Star of India is a San Diego icon–everyone recognizes it. A lot of us spent the night aboard it as kids during an educational overnight program, or attended a friend’s birthday party or a corporate event.
The Star of India is an exciting and unique event venue. Walking along the Embarcadero, you’ve seen her sails and you’ve heard our pirates running about but you may not know how beautiful she can be for weddings!
We do specialty weddings and receptions ranging from nautical, tropical, island beach, and romantic, to anything else you can think of! Want more details? Call us at 619-234-9153 ext 102.
This kicks off our new series of posts to help you get to know our Event Venues team here at the Maritime Museum of San Diego.
First up is Jon Hall (center of photo)! Originally from Fargo, North Dakota, Jon has been a San Diegan since 1950! This year he and his wife, Lucy, will be celebrating their 50th anniversary.
Jon has been at the Maritime Museum of San Diego for seven years now and runs the Beverage Department in addition to assisting in the Event Venues Department.
When asked about one of his favorite memories here at the Museum Jon said, “My favorite was catering on the Star of India when it sailed. It’s a 150 year old ship that sails with no motor and has sailed around the world 21 times.” Now that is impressive!
Jon has also been the Assistant Food and Beverage Director at Town & Country, Vacation Village, Hacienda Hotel, and Holiday Inn Las Vegas. He enjoys hanging out with his grandchildren and has a collection of 10,000 football programs and magazines.
We are so happy to have Jon as a part of our team. If you host an event with us, you’ll probably see his smiling face behind the bar. Make sure to say hello!
