The history of chocolate and how it came to our country is an interesting tale of seafaring travels.

This year’s event will be held on multiple vessels to expand the event space!

This popular annual event with over 15 vendors showcasing and sampling various types of chocolate, has something for every palette. Kids and adults can make their own chocolate pizza, to delight chocolate lovers of all ages. The adults can participate in the wine and chocolate or beer and chocolate pairings as well as live baking and cooking with chocolate demonstrations.

Bay cruises and sailing opportunities with chocolate delicacies on board are available too.

  • For Maritime Museum Members Admission is FREE and sample cards are available for $5.00 at the door.
  • Guest passes and seafarer passes are not valid during this special event.

  • Chocolate Goodies will be handed out on all Pilot Bay Cruises. Tickets available at the museum, $7 per person.

This year’s Festival of Sail features an expanded events area, more booths to explore, larger kids zone, vintage boat display, stage for live entertainment, and a beer garden.

Festival of Sail is the LARGEST Tall Ship festival on the west coast and is hosted at the Maritime Museum of San Diego, transforming the North Embarcadero into a nautical theme park for 4 adventure filled days.

Held over Labor Day weekend each year, we start with a parade! On Thursday, a day before FOS (Festival of Sail) vendors and ships open to the public, you can watch the ships majestically sail into San Diego bay, enjoy cannon fire salutes, and seeing the ships end their journey at the Maritime Museum’s docks. A limited number of tickets are made available to participate being aboard during the tall ship parade.

Daily Activities during Festival of Sail: enjoy the visiting ships and crew, kids petting zoo, kids craft activities, face painting, Tall ship cannon battles, a special 30 minute Festival of Sail bay cruise, beer garden, on stage entertainment, Naval reinactors, photo ops with Captain Sunny and Pirates, and 100’s of arts and craft vendors, plus a multitude of food options, and so much more…

Festival of Sail Day 2It’s Festival of Sail Day 2!  The fun continues all day long with Cannon Battles, Pilot Boat Rides, Treasure Seeker Pirate Sails, a Twilight Sail, a Mid-Day Sail, and plenty of tall ships to explore!

Petting ZooAnd stop by to say hello to our cutest member of the petting zoo–the adorable baby pot bellied pig.  Kids and adults can say hello to a variety of little critters.

Shave Ice

It’s a scorcher–so make sure to wear your sunscreen and cool off with some Hawaiian Shave Ice!  The Festival of Sail goes through Monday–hope you can make it!

This Labor Day weekend you can experience the LARGEST Tall Ship festival on the west coast hosted by the Maritime Museum of San Diego!

The North Embarcadero will be transformed into a nautical theme park with more than twenty tall ships and other fascinating vessels from around the world visiting San Diego.

On Thursday, a day before FOS officially opens, cannon fire will salute the entrance of the tall ships from all over the world as they parade around San Diego Bay finally ending at the Maritime Museum’s docks.
