Festival of Sail Day 1

Tall Ship Festival of SailRed sails?  The American Pride is just one of our visiting tall ships for the Festival of Sail this year.  Her beautiful red sails stand out boldly against the bright blue water of the San Diego Bay.  Want to climb aboard and check them out for yourself?  You can!

Today is the first day of the Festival of Sail!  Cannon shots are echoing off the downtown skyline, ships are sailing around the Bay, and snow cones are helping everyone stay cool!

Come on down for a Pirate Adventure Cruise or to explore the ships and have an ice cold beer in our beer gardens.  Either way it will be a great day.

Stay tuned–more pictures and info to come.

Festival of Sail Parade of Ships is TODAY

Image

Festival of Sail is about to kick off this morning with the Parade of Ships.

At 11 am a majestic flotilla of 9 tall ships will be sailing into the San Diego Bay to commence the 4 day festival this Labor Day weekend (Friday-Monday).  The ships will be sailing in bound San Diego Harbor along Shelter Island, Harbor Island, Seaport Village, to the Coronado Bridge where they will turn around and head back to the Maritime Museum of San Diego.  They should arrive back at the museum around 1 pm.  The tall ships will be visible from all waterfront businesses and restaurants during the parade.

You don’t need a ticket to watch the parade come in–just grab a spot along the water.  Then come on down for the Festival this weekend.  Day passes for adults are only $15 or you can get a 4-day pass for $25.  Seniors, Active Military, and Children are $10 or $20 for a 4-day pass.  Children 5 and under are free!

At the Festival you can explore all of the tall ships, listen to live music, enjoy beer gardens and tasty treats, visit multiple vendors, and even enjoy a petting zoo!  See you soon San Diego.

Pirate Birthday Party Review

Pirates on Star of India

One of our favorite things to do here at the museum is throw wicked sweet parties.  You can choose from an assortment of fun themes or create a theme of your own.  One of our specialties is pirate parties.

Recently we hosted a pirate birthday party on the Star of India.  Here is a review from our client:
“Hi Erin,

We were so pleased with the party yesterday.  Swordfish, Dread Beard and Mr. S(?) were fantastic!  Ryan’s kindergarten teacher  was a guest and even she was impressed with how they kept the kids in line.

They had the timeline down perfectly, were very organized and kept both the parents and kids well entertained with the ship’s history and pirate banter.  And what a setting.

I was worried that we had too many people (never had a party with so many RSVPs “yes”) but it was not a problem at all.  We ended up with about 28 kids with some no-shows.

Thanks for all your instructions and helpful hints.  Pizza came on time and was delicious.  Suggestion: have them cut it in squares so you don’t have a 10 inch long slice.  We did cupcakes and bottled sodas so no utensils or cups.

I hope someday we can do another event there.

Arrrrrgh

Adrianne”

Thanks Adrianne!  We are so glad you enjoyed your event and Ryan was happy!

Maritime Ghost Conference Tickets

Paranormal Investigations

The Maritime Ghost Conference is coming to town this September 15th and you won’t want to miss it!

Not only will it be fun, but the Paranormal Conference will also be a fundraiser for the Maritime Museum of San Diego.  Seminars will be held aboard our lovely Berkeley Ferryboat.

According to the San Diego Ghost and Paranormal Group, the seminars “will focus on “ghosts of the sea” with haunted ship experts telling what has been encountered on such ships as the Star of India, Queen Mary, USS Hornet, and others.”

There will be additional opportunities for ghost investigations lead by professional investigators on the Star of India and the Berkeley on September 14th and 15th.

Check out the Maritime Ghost Conference website for details on guest speakers.

You can buy your tickets now online because seats are sure to sell out.

Hope you can join in the fun!
